Tier 1 · Build the Foundations
Prepared. Not Paranoid.
Personal safety begins long before there is an actual interaction. These modules focus on recognizing concerns early, making informed decisions, and responding when a situation begins to change.
Either module stands on its own, or you can combine them for a broader foundation. No prior experience is required. Taking both is encouraged, but you may choose whichever training fits your needs.
Module 1 – Personal Safety Foundations
Learn to recognize concerning situations, make informed decisions earlier, and respond before an encounter becomes physical.
Typical duration: 60-90 minutes
Topics may include:
- Situational Awareness
- Recognizing Concerning Behavior
- Conflict Avoidance
- Establishing Verbal Boundaries
- De-Escalation Principles
- Identifying Disengagement Opportunities
- Personal Safety Decision-Making
This module emphasizes awareness and decision making without encouraging fear or hyper vigilance.
Participation format: Discussion-based and entirely hands-off. This module does not include physical contact or partner drills.
Module 2 – Defensive Movement and Escape
Practice creating space, protecting your movement, and getting away when someone ignores your boundaries or attempts to restrict you.
Typical duration: 90-120 minutes
Topics may include:
- Protective Posture and Movement
- Creating Distance and Moving Toward Exits
- Using Verbal Commands Under Pressure
- Using Barriers and the Environment
- Basic Releases from Common Grabs
- Protecting Yourself While Returning to Your Feet
- Accessing a Phone or Defensive Tool While Moving
The goal is not to “win a fight.” It is to remain mobile, create an opportunity to disengage, and reach safety.
Participation format: Includes optional hands-on practice. Physical contact is explained in advance and only occurs with each participant’s clear consent. Observation and non-contact alternatives are always available.
Combine Both Modules:
Everyday Personal Safety Workshop
Combines Personal Safety Foundations and Defensive Movement and Escape modules into a broader training experience designed to help you recognize concerns earlier, establish boundaries, create distance, and respond when a situation changes.
Typical duration: 2.5-3.5 hours
Participation format: Includes optional hands-on practice. Physical contact is explained in advance and only occurs with each participant’s clear consent. Observation and non-contact alternatives are always available.
Training Designed for All People
Training is meant to be approachable, practical, and adaptable to different bodies, abilities, comfort levels, and prior experience. Skills are explained before they are practiced, questions are always welcome, and no one is expected to prove their toughness.
We are committed to meeting each participant where they are and working with them to support comfortable, meaningful participation; whatever their physical, cognitive, emotional, or accessibility needs may be.
These modules may be offered through:
